Q: Im planning to go in August, 2-3nights, and Im sure it will be cold, so Im thinking somewhere with cosy open fire, rustic charm, not after anything too modern...etc etc
A: As already said Cradle Mountain and lake St Clair are both beautiful places and have lots of rustic options and open fires. You could also look at Strahan on the west coast, Bicheno or Coles Bay in Freycinet , Bruny Island just south of Hobart or the Coal River valley near Richmond (30 mins from Hobart), theres lots of holiday rental accommodation available and good value at this time of year as well and wonderful old pubs and B&Bs http://www.discovertasmania.com/ has lots of info
