Q: Visiting family in Australia in April and they are taking us to Rottness Island, any info please?

A: I have been there. It is a very picturesque, laid back island. There are no cars allowed. Everyone hires bikes and rides around. The island is famous for its quokkas (marsupials half way between the size of a rat and a kangaroo) which are only found there and nowhere else. You can only get there by ferry (which is a nice ride in itself down the Swan river) or by private boat. It is not commercialized at all. There is a lottery held to stay there at busy times of the year as someone previously stated. From what I could tell most of the accommodation is in whetherboard houses so it mostly attracts families and groups of friends. It has a beautiful coastline with lots of little beaches, beautiful bays and lots of places to snorkel. I am sure you will really enjoy it.
