Q: we are planning a trip to Perth. i was wondering how much time we would need to do the drive there and back (from syd). we want to stop and visit some places in between without being rushed.
A: I have done this trip a couple of times and love it. If you go through the middle of the country and drive 8-12 hours a day it will take you 5 days. The Great Ocean Road way will take an extra day, but is beautiful if you have never seen it. The best fish and chips are at Port Campbell!You will have a great time seeing the real Australia. I reckon you're not an Aussie until you have driven across the Nullabor plain. The Nullabor is one of the most unreal places in Australia. As you reach each roadhouse you will find the same group of people as you are traveling at the same rate. You soon become a family and look for one another at the next stop. Spring is the best time to travel, when the whales are at the Head of The Bight. Being so close to these magnificent creatures with their new babies is just magic.
