Q: Hello, Can I buy land in Perth Australian and not construct. as I have heard that you cannot leave land for more then a yr. Is that true? thanks.

A: You would be lucky to find empty building land in Perth at all!! If you buy land on most of the new subdivisions in the Perth area, there are covenants that require you to commence construction within a certain timeframe. This is really quite reasonable when you look at it from the point of view of who wants to live next door to an empty weed infested rubbish dump. But, in strict legal terms, if you buy empty land, there is no requirement to build on it.
