Single Woman moving to Perth - which suburb is safe to live in alone? How safe is it to commute in Perth?

Q: Hello. I am a single woman with a pending job in the Armadale area. I have no relatives or friends in Perth, so at the moment I am at a loss as to how to start looking for potential accommodation. While I am willing to commute, I am concerned about whether or not it will be safe to do so when I get off shift or on shift late at night or very early in the morning. I will not have my own car. Would any of you have any suggestions on: 1. What area it would be safe to live in the Armadale-Kelmscott-Mt. Nasura locale for a single woman living alone? 2. If you were to suggest a suburb a bit farther from the area that will require a commute, which areas should I look at? In which of those areas will it be fairly safe to get a flat by myself? Any advice you can give me on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

A: If I worked in Armadale and wanted to be reasonably close by but safe, then I'd look at Roleystone, or anywhere in the Hills. Do not go anywhere on the plains. Personally I'd go no closer than Cannington to the North, or Serpentine in the South, but I do have friends who live in Seville Grove, but I wouldn't.
