I'm an Australian overseas, getting married soon to a non-Australian. How do I apply for a passport 4 my wife?

Q: What is the procedure? Which are the forms that I should be looking at? I was given this address by the consulate: http://www.immi.gov.au/ But it seemed a bit too vast, I don't really know what I meant to be look for on it.

A: Unfortunately your partner will not be able to get a Australian passport for 5 years after she's had her subclass 100 visa, but once she has her subclass 100 visa she can go to and from Australia as often as she likes.Your best bet is to get some one in Australia to get in contact with immigration in Australia to find out the right forms that you will need. You could also ring the nearest Australian embassy but I found that when I rang the one in England from Ireland to find out which forms I needed for my Husband,I was told 3 completely different forms, and 3 different stories about the whole process and how long it would take for my Husband 's visa to be approved.Once your partner has the right forms, she will need to send the forms to the nearest Australian embassy with the visa fee.You will also need additional money for her medical exam. She won't be able to just go to her GP,she will only be allowed to go to one of the doctors that is on a list of their doctor's that she can only use,so depending how far she may have to travel, you may need additional costs to get their and back. You will also need your full marriage certificate as well as both your birth certificates.Your partner will also need to make sure that her passport is well valid as they will put her visa in her passport. The visa my Husband got(subclass 100) is valid for 5 years(he has permanent residency)Then when his 5 years are up he can either be given another 5 year visa or apply to become an Australian citizen which then she can get an Australian passport. The whole process time can vary.It all depends which country you are lodging your form, whether your partner has filled all the forms out properly and whether or not she passes her medical test.If your partner does have any thing medically wrong with her,I recommend that she be honest. My Husband has a medical problem which could have stopped him passing his medical exam, but my Husband was very honest and told the doctor every thing about his medical condition, and he also bought along all his medical records, which the doctor had said that my husband had done the right thing as if he hadn't of been honest there would have been a really big chance that the doctor would have not passed his medical. We were told that my husband's visa could take up to 2 years to get,but it only took 6 weeks,as they took into account we had been honest about my Husband's medical condition, that we had been together already for 14 years at the time and had 3 children together. I hope I was of some help, and I hope you have an amazing memorable wedding.Take care.
