Q: My husband & I will be in Sydney for the summer of 08. We currently live in Vancouver, Canada. We already have a place to live in Newtown. What kind of weather can we expect? Any ideas of where we should go to eat, drink, etc....? He will be working, but I am just along for the trip, so basically, what do you think I should do all day ?(we are in our late 30s, professionals) How is it getting around the city? We are a mixed couple, (me Indian, him your basic white guy). Do you think this might pose any issues? Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

A: I have given two links to Newtown cafes and restaurants. It has many and a very wide range of cuisines so finding something you like will not be a problem. I also suggest Darling Harbour, the pier area, Cockle Bay (Nicks Seafood is one of the best.) and the Woollomoloo area for up market restaurants. Australia is a very multicultural country, you will not have any hassles with being of mixed race as it is pretty normal here to have either come from another country yourself or at least your parents. So in fact you will fit in perfectly. To fill in your time there are many galleries, museums, markets (Paddys) shopping centres and great places to chill put your feet up and grab a proper coffee, not the stuff in a plastic cup. Public transport is relatively easy and cheap. I do suggest that you hop on the ferry and see the harbour from that point of view it gives it a whole other perspective. The weather sadly could be picture perfect or wet and windy. It is our winter so bring warm clothes and pack an umbrella. The temps will range from 6-10c at night up to 17-21 during the day. Occasionally it gets a little colder but rarely. The links below also allow you to search other suburbs. Sydney has great food so anywhere you go you should not be disappointed. I hope that you and your husband have a wonderful time in one of the worlds amazing cities.
