Q: why is it cheaper than a unit? what's the catch?

A: They don't have rooms... everything - bedroom, kitchen, lounge room, dining room, etc is all in a single room. You won't find any doors except one for the bathroom (hopefully). People prefer them for their price and who is just after a place to live without much demands. Typically, young people, especially those who just started Uni or joined the workforce would buy these apartments. I personally would not want to buy one of these to live in. A home without rooms isn't something I'm used to.
