A: 1. The age limit for skilled migration is 45. 2. There are government age, disability and unemployment benefits/pensions. They are administered by Centrelink. http://www.centrelink.gov.au/ 3. Medicare is our equivalent to the NHS though the two schemes are quite different. Treatment in public hospitals is completely free. Outside of hospital, the government sets a 'scheduled fee' for medical treatment but doctors are free to charge whatever they wish for their services. Medicare pays 75% of the scheduled fee and the patient pays the difference between the Medicare benefit and whatever the doctor charges. Some doctors 'bulk bill' meaning that they charge only the Medicare benefit so treatment by them is free. Patients can freely choose their own doctor so it is your choice to attend a bulk billing doctor or not. Spectacles, hearing aids, dental treatment and some other services that are covered by the NHS are not covered by Medicare. Patients pay an up front charge (currently about $31) for each pharmaceutical prescription, but that is the maximum payable. Many people have private health insurance to cover private hospital care and items not covered by Medicare. http://www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/ In order to qualify for a work visa, you must have a listed occupation and must pass a points test and meet health and character requirements. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/skilled-occupations/index.htm (listed occupations and skills recognition) http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/changes/_pdf/GSMchange_points-test.pdf (points test) http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/health-requirements/index.htm (health) http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/character-requirements/index.htm (character) http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/index.htm (everything else including how to apply and costs)
